Street Style - Bethany Shelmerdine

After spending a week at home I was so excited to get back to university to see that the sun had made an appearance AND to see the outfits on campus this week. Fashionista’s all over campus are definitely starting to make the transition from the cold and gloomy winter trends to the spring trends. This week’s fashionista was most definitely sporting one of the brightest coats I’ve seen this week.
Name: Bethany Shelmerdine
Major: Business
Year: Freshman
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing, and where is it from?
Bethany Shelmerdine: Today I am wearing: ripped jeans which are from Asos as well as my mustard colored blazer coat. I’m wearing a polo neck from H&M which I really love with this outfit because although it’s spring it’s still a tad chilly and the polo neck helps to keep me warm! I’ve gone for accessories from Asos (shoes) and TK Maxx (hand bag).
CF: What inspires your style?
BS: Oh this is a tricky one! I have loads of inspirations when it comes to my style but I’d say Kim Kardashian has had a huge influence on my outfit choices recently. I really love her look at the moment with the oversized coats mixed with elegance really looks classy but chic. The big coat look definitely is what I was going for today.
CF: What are your favourite items in your wardrobe?
BS: My favourite item in my wardrobe is these jeans that I’m wearing today. They look like a pair of jeans that you’d see Kim Kardashian or Kanye West in and I think they’re really on trend for Spring/Summer. I also love that these jeans can be dressed up for a night out or dressed down just for a lazy day at home.
CF: What’s next on your shopping list?
BS: Well, I’d like to have another oversized coat in my wardrobe; I love the look it gives to an outfit. I really love that Kenzo is becoming a popular brand again and that even high street stores are making dupes for their iconic tiger jumpers. I’m considering treating myself to a Kenzo jumper at some point so that is definitely going on my shopping list.

How To: This fashionista is definitely rocking the bold colours with her outfit and accessories. To achieve this style, a boldly coloured coat is essential for this look along with some ripped skinny jeans. Accessorize this outfit with some slip on sneakers, and a brightly coloured handbag.

Street Style - Lauren Skarratt

This semester I haven’t seen many students sporting a Boho Chic style so I was thrilled when I saw this Fashionista. Black is a reoccurring shade that I have seen a variety of students wearing on campus and I think it’s a popular shade on the high street and a lot of people tend to go for it as it’s an easy shade to wear. This week’s Fashionista is definitely rocking a Boho Chic style with the added sleekness and elegance.
 Name: Lauren Skarratt
Major: Fashion Promotion
Year: Freshman
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where is it from?
Lauren Skarratt: Today I am wearing a pair of the Leigh jeans from Topshop with a black lace top from Zara with a jacket that is also from Zara. I’ve gone for black boots with this outfit today that are also from Topshop and added one of my favourite hand bags from Zara.
CF: What inspires your style?
LS: I have so many different inspirations when it comes to outfit choices and buying new pieces for my wardrobe. I often find myself looking through different magazines and different blogs to find out what is popular on the high street. Lauren Conrad and Alexa Chung are huge style icons for me and I always love to look at what they’re wearing. Coco Chanel is one of my favourite designers and I find that the classic and elegant designs influence me when I’m putting an outfit together.
CF: What are your favourite items in your wardrobe?
LS: I really do have a lot of favourite pieces in my wardrobe but my all-time favourite has to be a cream blouse embellished with pearls. I brought the blouse about two years ago for my birthday from Miss Selfridge and it’s just one of those items that I don’t ever want to throw away, it’s just too beautiful to get rid of.
CF: What’s next on your shopping list?
LS: Next on the shopping list for me is most definitely a new dress. At the moment I only really have a couple of dresses sat in my wardrobe that I wear. I want a new evening dress that I can dress up with lots of different accessories for a night out or even for a meal out so I’m going to be hunting on the high street for a new dress!

HowTo: This Fashionista has such a simple outfit but it looks so effortlessly chic and elegant. To achieve a look like this a pair of Topshop Leigh jeans are a must; in fact, they’re a must for any fashionista to have in their wardrobe! If you’re not feeling a Boho chic outfit swap the black lace top for a coloured chiffon shirt with a leather jacket to give it a rock and roll feel.

Street Style - Lois Dean

I haven’t seen many Fashionistas braving a skirt this semester and I was impressed when I saw this one Fashionista rocking a skirt in this cold weather! A skirt is so easy to dress up in the summer or add more layers to in the winter to wrap up for the stormy weather. As soon as I spotted this Fashionista I knew I wanted to feature her this week.
Name: Lois Dean
Major: Photography
Year: Freshman
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where is it from?
Lois Dean: Today I went for a black and white hooped long sleeve top which is from New Look, with a floral print skater skirt from Topshop. I then decided to accessorise my outfit with a black jacket and chunky black boots both from New Look. I  added the necklace and the rings to my outfit which are from Shop Dixi.
CF: What inspires your style?
LD: I find inspirations for my style in everyday life; the majority comes from grunge and street style. I also like to look at different pattern and texture combinations.  I really like to try and replicate these styles in my outfit.
CF: What are your favourite items in your wardrobe?
LD: I have lots of favourite items in my wardrobe; however my current favourite item is my silk playsuit that I have from Topshop. Another favourite of mine is a black coat I have from New Look and I like to pair it with a wrap around orange scarf that I have from Zara.
CF: What is next for you on your shopping list?
LD: I don’t know if this is fashion related but I’d really love a new pair of running trainers, preferably some Nike Roshe to wear for a run and to the gym. I also think they look really nice with skinny jeans and add a bit of a tomboyish look to a sophisticated outfit.

How To: This Fashionista has braved the cold weather this week with a skirt and I think it’s great to have a statement skirt in your wardrobe. A simple baggy crop top layered with a printed skater skirt would get a look like this Fashionista. A boyfriend coat and some chunky heeled boots would help to tie to the outfit together and complete the look.

Street Style -Ife Ahove

I’ve now been at university for five months and I love seeing all of the different student styles. I found this FASHIONISTA outside my building and I loved the simplistic elegance she showed in her outfit.
Name: Ife Ahove
Major: Graphics
Year: Freshman
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where is it from?
Ife Ahove: My jeans are from Topshop, they’re the Joni jeans, my coat is from my Primark, my top is from a market stall in Camden, London, my jumper is from H&M, my bag is from Asos and my boots are from Topshop.
CF: What inspires your style?
IA: I find I’m inspired by lots of different things when it comes to style but I mainly like wearing simple items and I like wearing mostly black as I feel that it can go with anything I’m wearing whether I’m dressing up or down. I also find that I really like minimal style and I think the Kardashian’s pull this off perfectly and in particular Kim so I always love to check out her Instagram to see what she’ s wearing and try to replicate her style in my outfits.
CF: What is your favourite item in your wardrobe?
IA: My favourite item of clothing in my wardrobe, again sticking with the black theme is my black skinny jeans. Again I just feel like they can go with any outfit and I just love having a statement pair of black jeans.
CF: What’s next on your shopping list?
IA: There are so many new items that I want to get for my wardrobe but I’ve had my eyes on a pair of really nice chunky boots from New Look so I am going to treat myself to them and I’d also really like to get myself a new purse so I’m on the lookout for a nice new purse.
How To: Statement black jeans are a must if you’re looking to recreate an outfit like this for yourself, Topshop Joni jeans are really popular and a must for any FASHIONISTA to have in their wardrobe. If you wanted to add some colour to your take on this outfit, a boyfriend coat would look super trendy thrown on top of some skinny jeans. A statement handbag would finish this outfit off perfectly to give it a chic feel and look.

Street Style - Hem Patel

As the weather gets colder, wetter and gloomier in the UK — Fashionistas across campus are wrapping up in layers to stay warm. I’m finding that a major trend is fur, and is being worn by most students attending university. This particular Fashionista was definitely dressed for the fur trend. She also exhibited some very bold prints, while throwing in some distinctive colors in her outfit as well.
Name: Hem Patel
Major: Fine Art
Year: Freshman
CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing, and where is it from?
Hem Patel: My coat is from Zara, mom jeans are from Topshop, the jumper is from H&M, shoes are from Next, this bag is from Primark and my watch is a Casio.
CF: What inspires your style?
HP: I find that most of the inspiration for my outfits comes from looking at the current features, clothes and accessories that are portrayed in magazines. I also find myself looking at the color trends which work to inspire each particular style. Being out, shopping and seeing something distinctive that catches my eye in the shop displays (in particular the featured mannequins), can also inspire me on what I should wear.
CF: What are your favourite items in your wardrobe?
HP: My favourite items in my wardrobe are: my silk kimono, an egg shell blue circle skirt, a wrap skirt, vintage oversized men’s shirts and my mom jeans.
CF: What’s next on your shopping list?
HP: Next on the shopping list for me is most definitely a CĂ©line skirt, a quilted sweatshirt, a hot pink clutch and a vintage Kenzo T-shirt.
How To: In order to achieve the stylish look that this Fashionista demonstrated, a simple piece of fur (or a fur gilet) can be your best friend. If you’d rather not wear real fur, then synthetic fur or even just a simple coat can provide the same stunning affect. If the bold colours and prints are not for you, a fluffy, knitted jumper can be really stylish, and will work just as well for this ensemble. The mom jeans are a huge trend right now, and they’re readily available in most vintage and quirky stores as well as flea markets. These work really well matched with a pair of “geek shoes.”

Street Style - Hannah Lee

As the weather gets colder and colder in the North of England, FASHIONISTAS are starting to wrap up warm and wear a lot of layers. Black is also a very popular shade to be wearing on campus recently and this FASHIONISTA was definitely dressed for the cold weather and sporting the most popular shade.

Name: Hannah Lee
Degree: Photography
Year: Freshman

CollegeFashionista:  What are you wearing and where is it from?
Hannah Lee: Today I’m wearing some basic black jeans from Primark, basic black top also from Primark, my boots are from a market stall in Manchester, and my coat is from Asda and was an absolute bargain as it was only £10! My studded bag is also from Primark.

CF: How would you describe your style?
HL: I would say that my style is very much simple and laid back but I try to keep it classy. I wear black a lot of the time because I feel that it’s a sleek look and that I can also dress up or dress down and add splashes of colour to a plain black outfit. I also like to add different accessories so that I can dress my outfit up for a night time look or wear simple accessories for a day time look.

CF: What is your ultimate go-to item?
I would say that my go- to item is a pair of black jeans because you can never go wrong with them. Again I feel that I can dress them up if I’m going out or I can dress them down if I’m having a lazy day. My Doc Martins are also a favourite of mine when it comes to a go-to item because they’re practical and they’re stylish.

CF: What’s next on your shopping list?
The next item on my shopping list is definitely some black jeans with the rips in the knees.

How To: To achieve Hannah’s simplistic yet stylish look it’s really quite easy. It’s all about finding the right items in the right places. A tartan coat like Hannah’s is easy to find this winter because tartan is one of the biggest trends this season. Black jeans and a black t-shirt are essentials to have in your wardrobe but if you want to change the outfit and bring some colour in, try a different coloured t-shirt and some light jeans. Timberland/Workmen boots are also a big trend this winter and would be a great substitute for the cut out boots.

Street Style - Jordan Lowrie

Tartan is a big trend everywhere at the minute and there is so many ways to style tartan. It can be dressed up for a formal event or it can be dressed casually. This fashionista styled her tartan casually to rock a tomboyish look for the cold winter days. This fashionista layered a tartan shirt with a vest and ripped skinny jeans with Jordan’s to keep it looking street. She then added feminine accessories to the outfit wearing a big studded handbag and chunky jewellery.

Name:  Jordan Lowrie
Major: Fashion Media and Marketing
Year: Fresher

CollegeFashionista: What are you wearing and where’s it from?
Jordan Lowrie: My jeans are from H&M, as was my black vest to, my green tartan shirt was from Pyrex Vision, my Jordan’s are from a vintage sneaker shop in New York called Premium Laces and my jewellery and bag are from River Island.

CF: What inspires your style?
JL: I absolutely love Marc Jacobs and lots of other designers and their work but I find my inspiration for my outfits on websites such as blogger, blogspot and tumblr. My style is quite unique and urban and I love looking at these websites to get inspiration for my outfits from all over the world, there are so many different varieties of outfits all over the world and I love looking at global fashion to help inspire my outfits.

CF: What is your favourite item of clothing in your wardrobe?
JL: I’d have to say my favourite item of clothing in my wardrobe is most definitely my little black dress, black is my favourite colour to wear and you can never go wrong with a little black dress! I also love my trainers they aren’t just for boys to run around in, if they’re paired with jeans or denim shorts then girls can really rock a pair of trainers and that’s why I love my trainers!

CF: What is next on your shopping list?
JL: I really want a pair of black Timberland boots because again black is my favourite colour and I feel that they’re boots that can be worn all year round, I for sure need a pair of black Timberland boots!

How To:

To achieve a look like Jordan’s feminine yet tomboyish look you just have to pick up the right pieces from the right shops for your wardrobe, tartan shirts are everywhere at the minute and so easy to pick up, if you feel like you don’t want to wear black jeans and add some colour to your outfit, add some light denim jeans to this outfit and the outfit can always be finished with a nice big leather jacket.
